When Tara over at sticky fingers set this week’s gallery prompt, I found it hard to come up with an idea. Then, last night as I was feeding Little M before bedtime, inspiration struck.
This week has been a bit of an emotional roller coaster. Big M is hitting the terrible twos, and I am finding it hard to maintain my cool-mummy facade. This then gives me guilt that I should be a better mummy who can deal with the tantrums without shouting or getting cross myself. I know it is just a phase, but I hope it passes quickly! Yesterday was a long day with battles with Big M over naptime, time out for pinching/hitting and I was exhausted. There had, however, also been some great times during the day: painting in the garden, sorting buttons, cooking the tea together.
The tantrums are actually such a small part of our day, but they overshadow everything else and leave me feeling drained. Really I need to remember that, and focus on the awesome fun we have in between times.
I also need to focus on the fact that I love her more than anything, tantrums and all. Because I do.
To the moon and back.
And then some.
See more novel ideas over at sticky fingers.

They are definitely difficult between One and…. oh, for ever! Dont worry, you are not alone, I think we all wish we were calmer or better at managing tantrums and they are SOOOO draining! Love the post and the photo. Great shot. ANd great that you can see past the tantrums and still enjoy your little one

Ahhh, we all need reminding why we do it sometimes. Lovely x

Don't beat yourself up about it too much, tantrums are exhausting and so very tiring to deal with and we don't seem able to forget about them as quickly as the little ones can. But I love that book and your photo and thank you for the reminder what it is all about. I find that sometimes I really need it. x

it's good to know others feel the same
she's mostly amazing, so I hope the tantrums are short lived

indeed we do, but it is TOTALLY worth it

I know what you mean – the tears and shouting can vanish in seconds! I, on the other hand, need a strong coffee and chocolate to restore me

Great pic and post, I always tell Baby T I love her to the moon and back.Perhaps you need to have a tantrum now and then, I find it works wonders! As does chocolate! It sounds like you had a lovely day anyway, all things considered

I think you've echoed my own feelings on occasions. Like you say though the amazing times make the odd tantrum fade into insignificance. Lovely Gallery post x

Lovely post, lovely book. Focusing on the fun does make a huge difference doesn't it, just not always easy to remember to do it. Am sure I'll find it much harder once we reach the twos.

It's really not that bad, just tricky when you are tired too. Mostly the twos are great fun and I can highly recommend them. Mostly…

I didn't know that book so had to look it up! I can't remember the terrible twos at all now – great how memories forget the bad bits x

A fab entry — all of my boys have absolutely loved that book. Don't be so hard on yourself — your little one is likely just testing the waters with his temper tantrums. Just breathe and keep him on course — it will pass. x

Lovely post – you've definitely hit the nail on the head in trying not to let the odd tantrum or time out shadow the rest of the day, even though it's hard sometimes! You've reminded me that we really are so lucky to have these little people in our lives aren't we!

Very sweet. We have that book on our shelves too. Mine likes stretching her arms out as far as they will go. Tantrums are hard but they pass. Although when you're in the thick of it it's difficult to remember that isn't it? Hugs.

thanks. the tantrums are hard, but I am beginning to notice a pattern (mostly happen when I am feeding little m) so rethinking strategies. hopefully they'll pass soon

Aww I love 'Guess how much I love you' I first came across it when i was a nursery nurse and I have about 3 copies of the book, the original, valetines version and one in german. It's actually the only thing I've ever collected, I want to try and get someother languages so that I can share them all with my children one day.MissSearles
