day zero: month seven

October has been a bit of an odd month. We have been away a couple of times for mini holidays with friends and family. Happy days. Mr TOPP was also away for five days for work, leaving me on my todd with two kids for the first time. Eeep. Fortunately I only had to manage for a couple of days before my mum came to stay and help out. Phew.

What I think I am trying to say, in a roundabout way, is that I don’t think i have achieved much from my day zero list this month. Just so you don’t expect me to have crossed loads off or anything. I would hate for you to be disappointed.

So, shall we see just how little I have done during October? Why not…

4. Keep on top of the laundry

It never ceases to amaze me just how much washing a family of four can produce. Mostly we all have clean clothes at all times. That must mean I am doing ok on this one, right?

25. Decorate at least one room in the new house

When we bought the house we knew we would want to decorate pretty much every room eventually. Part of the reason for choosing this house was because nothing needed desperately doing. We can live with it all for a while until we have the money/time/energy to decorate.

But now we have been in for six months I am starting to twitch. The reasons for not decorating yet still apply, but we have agreed. The dining room carpet will go. Soon. I cannot tell you how happy that makes me.

34. Teach the kids to swim

Big M has been going swimming regularly with Mr TOPP for a while now. Little M and I were finally able to join them the other week, and we all had great fun. Big M is geting the hang of kicking, and with a float can actually move through the water under her own steam.

37. Use the library on a regular basis

We have started going to Story Tots at the library. It’s great fun. Each week is a different theme (last week was bodies, another week was animals, you get the picture). We have stories read to us and sing songs. The only problem I have with the whole shebang is that the librarians who lead the song part of story time insist on counting us in to three. Even when the song is in four. As a musician I can’t cope, but the kids seem to be able to. And I guess that’s the main thing right? Still, it irks me.

However, Big M loves choosing books for herself to take home afterwards. She also chooses some for Little M, but even those tend to be mostly for Big M. We now have a dedicated library bag and a photo of the library for the calendar.

69. Blog about how much or how little of this list I have completed once a month

Seven months, seven posts. Go me.

Not bad, all things considered. Not good, but not bad.

I promise I will try harder next month.
