personal challenge: september

So, you know when you have a super duper plan and it’s all going to be good and then something comes along and scuppers it? That’s pretty much where I am now.

You see, I had designated September the Month of Knitting Hats. Every year I say I’ll knit the kids’ hats to go with their coats. Every year I leave it until it’s properly cold out there to even cast on. Bad mummy. It’s especially bad for Little M who has no hair to keep her head warm until the hat is completed.

So, there I was, full of the knitting plan. I have the pattern ready, and the wool for Little M’s hat. We had agreed on a colour for Big M’s. Perfect for September’s personal challenge.

And then I went and got a wonky hand. Currently I can’t cut food, peg out washing, turn a key, hold a pen or play the piano. The last two are particularly tricky as school starts on Monday and I am a music teacher. Hmmm. Fortunately for you, I can still type (albeit slowly).

Strikes me knitting is probably going to be added to the list of things I currently cannot do.

However, me having a wonky hand is not going to stop the weather getting colder (it is officially autumn, Big M’s calendar says so), and it certainly won’t stop the M’s getting cold heads. So, somehow I have to get their hats knitted. Even if it involves teaching them to knit themselves. Fifteen months isn’t too young to be let loose with a knitting needle is it? Of course not…

Want to join in? You are very welcome. Just set yourself a goal for the month – your very own Personal Challenge. At the beginning of the month, decide what it is that you want to achieve over the next thirty days. It could be anything: losing a couple of pounds, getting the weeding done, making something, learning a new skill. Whatever you like. Putting my management hat on for a second: make sure it is something you can actually achieve in a month. Be SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time-based). Write a post about what you want to achieve and why. If you link back to my post then others can join in too – you can use the badge if you like (the code is over on the right there).

Make sure you put the link to your post on the linky list at the bottom of mine (it’s open for two weeks). Use the opportunity to seek advice from/help out/support fellow bloggers. Then spend the next month attempting to achieve your goal. At the end of the month I’ll be back to let you know how I have got on with my personal challenge and there will be another linky for you to share your success. So come back and tell us how you got on and we can all give you a pat on the back.
